The Business OpsCenter 3.8.2

201 - Missing or misconfigured database driver

Top  Previous  Next
Cause
oThis occurs when the database driver that OpsCenter uses is either not installed or is misconfigured.  These drivers are preinstalled on Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista computers but not on Windows 98/ME computers.  OpsCenter relies on the driver being configured correctly on these computers.  In rare circumstances, the driver can become misconfigured in which case OpsCenter will not be able to connect to a database file.

Resolution
oResolving this error requires a the database driver to be installed or repaired.  OpsCenter uses a database driver supplied by Microsoft which is built into newer versions of Windows.  The database driver is also known as MDAC or Microsoft Data Access Components.  The following procedure describes how to install/repair the database driver that OpsCenter uses.  The procedures vary depending on the version of Windows you are using as well as the service pack you have installed.

Windows 98/ME/2000

MDAC is not pre-installed in Windows 98 or ME.  Windows 2000 comes with an older version of MDAC.  The easiest way to repair the database driver on these systems is to install the latest version of MDAC.

As of this writing, the most recent version of MDAC is 2.81 and it can be downloaded from: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=78cac895-efc2-4f8e-a9e0-3a1afbd5922e&displaylang=en.

If this doesn't fix the problem, you may also try installing the latest Jet 4.0 service pack for your operating system.  As of this writing, Jet 4.0 service pack 8 is available from the following:

Windows 98 - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=4335216c-8cdd-4168-a030-46f815d3f5cd

Windows Me - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=8daced57-34b6-407c-b773-1e67c2c6b8c9&DisplayLang=en

Windows 2000 - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=1e268b39-533e-48b0-b8d7-1781befde1f8

Windows XP Service Pack 0 or Service Pack 1

Windows XP Service Pack 0 and 1 comes with an older version of MDAC.  The easiest way to repair the database driver on these systems is to install the latest version of MDAC.

As of this writing, the most recent version of MDAC is 2.8 and it can be downloaded from: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=6c050fe3-c795-4b7d-b037-185d0506396c&displaylang=en.

If this doesn't fix the problem, you may also try installing the latest Jet 4.0 service pack for your operating system.  As of this writing, Jet 4.0 service pack 8 is available from the following:

Windows XP - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=2deddec4-350e-4cd0-a12a-d7f70a153156

Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Service Pack 3

Windows XP Service Pack 2 and 3 includes the latest version of MDAC.  The only way to repair the database driver on these systems is to reinstall the currently installed version of MDAC.

***Before beginning, check the list of files in step 4 and make sure they are in the location specified.  If they are not, do a system search to find the correct location.  Also, make sure file (c) is renamed if needed.  It is much more difficult to search for and rename files once you start this procedure.  If you have access to the Windows XP installation disc WITH service pack 2, then follow steps 1 and 2 and then jump down to the alternate step 3 at the end.  If your Windows XP installation disc does not have service pack 2 or if it is not readily available, then follow the steps below normally.

1.Locate the file "C:\Windows\Inf\Mdac.inf".  (It could be at "C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386\Inf\Mdac.inf") (*.inf files are a known Windows type so Windows will hide the extension by default.  You may need to change the folder view preferences to reveal the extension type.)
2.Right-click on the file and select "Install".
3.When the install procedure prompts for a location, select "C:\Windows\servicepackfiles\i386".
4.The MDAC files will then be reinstalled.  You may be prompted for the location of some files.  The following list describes where they can be found:
a)adcjavas.inc
·C:\Windows\servicepackfiles\i386
b)handler.reg
·C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\msadc
c)MDACRdMe.htm
·C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\ado (If the file isn't there, rename the file "MDACReadme.htm" to "MDACRdMe.htm")
d)oledbjvs.inc
·C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Ole DB
e)mssoap1.dll
·C:\Program Files\Common Files\MSSoap\Binaries
f)mssoapr.dll
·C:\Program Files\Common Files\MSSoap\Binaries (or look for it in one of the subfolders of "Binaries")
5.Once the installation completes, retry OpsCenter.

***Alternate procedure ONLY if you have a Windows XP installation disc WITH service pack 2:

3. Insert the Windows XP Service Pack 2 disc in the computer and direct the installation procedure to the "\i386" folder.

4. Once the installation completes, retry OpsCenter.

Windows Vista Service Pack 0 or Service Pack 1

Windows Vista does not provide the same level of access to the MDAC system files as did previous versions of Windows.  At this time, there is no established repair procedure.  This is currently being researched so contact Audama Software Support for the latest information.
